Working on validating the fans. There were a few different fans that were ordered to find the best value.
The best fan for the price was a dual bearing fan that comes with the heat sink:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832184466053.html "5V Ballbering 3P FG" @ $4.58
- 3 Lines (includes tachometer)
Note: the cord on the fan is about 1 foot long. That's a lot of extra cable!!
Also, just ordered the "5V Ball bearing 2P" Fan + Heatsink @ $3.85
It only has two line (without the tachometer) but is $0.73 cheaper!
If it works, this will probably be the fan we go with exclusively.
Also, might even opt for cutting the power cord down to about 2 inches long and solder it in directly!
Validation continued... Part of the Fan validation was to find out if C32 was needed. Nope, It is not needed at all.
In Summary, here are the desired changes to the next PCB revision so far:
- Shrink holes on the two standoffs that are close to each other to match the other three.
- Move same two standoffs away from the heat sink stub. the screw are way to close. ~ 1.0 mm maybe.
- Adjust text on the silk layer for better readability and symmetry: "pgood", "power", "PC", "AUX PWR" and "Quarter Stick"
- Add '+' and '-' near the fan connector on the silk layer
- Increase the pad size on the fan connector so manual soldering will be much easier (especially if it is the fan wires directly)
- Add thermal vias on the USB Mounts
- Remove C32 and make C10 horizontal and centered.
